In #impact Season 5, we sit down with stakeholders working across numerous sectors and industries, to find a common language to address, measure and demonstrate the impact that they are making in tackling the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Today’s episode is different. This Special comes to you on International Women’s Day 2021 to celebrate you! You, the strong woman that you are!

You are listening to a very special episode of #impact – A Podcast about stuff that matters. I am your host, Regina Larko. It means so much to me that you care about the stories my guest hosts and me share on this channel.

Regina Larko (00:23)

In our Specials, I allow myself to try out new things and share from a more raw and personal place. I am recording this in Hong Kong for International Women’s Day 2021 but i hope that no matter when you are listening that it resonates with you.

Regina Larko (01:01)

As always when i try out something new, I am nervous about leaving my comfort zone. A comfort zone that wasn’t even a comfort zone a few years ago when I first started this Podcast.

But over the years, bringing you inspiring interviews with changemakers I look up to, become so natural to me. And I know that you have been enjoying these conversations so much as well. Thank you for sharing all your feedback and encouraging us with your support and your lovely reviews.

Regina Larko (02:05)

But although it makes me nervous, bringing you this totally unedited episode, without any jingle music or other elements that you have learned to love on our show, I know that I want to challenge myself and  I am excited about where today’s episode takes me – and where it takes you. If these kinds of Specials are something I should even do more often.

Today’s episode is short and sweet, one of our shortest in our history, but I hope it will make a long lasting impact. Thank you for giving me your time today, i don’t take this for granted.

Before I can read you my special message for this special day, International Women’s Day, I want you to know how this message came to be in the first place. The message you are about to hear, is something I typed in my phone this morning at 5am.

My baby boy woke me up around 4. He found himself happily asleep again after 30min, but now I was wide awake and my mind was racing.

Regina Larko (04:01)

There are two things I do when I find myself sleepless after a baby night soothing session, one is listening to a very calming Podcast called “Einschlafen”. It usually works. Today it didn’t. There was a lot on my mind and a really big transition for our family ahead.

So I went to my second strategy, that is not about trying to fall back asleep, but about making me feel a bit less bad about being sleepless. After all it was 5.am now and my day would start soon anyway. For sure one of the kids would wake up, ready to start their day.

So I opened my notes on my phone and just started typing, moving words around, saying them out loud in my mind. Erasing some things, adding some bits and pieces here and there.

Regina Larko (05:42)

Outside sun was rising and I could hear the bids chirping and the day come to life. And there I sat, with tears running down my face and as I read the final note i wondered if this would be something that would resonate with you as well.

I guess we‘ll find out.

Here it is brought to you with love, by me, Regina Larko on International Women’s Day 2021.

Here’s to you:

Regina Larko (06:50)

The strong woman that you are.

You choose to challenge the status quo. You choose to challenge yourself.

You make 1 million choices a day, in between, you doubt and assess.

Am i doing this right? you hear yourself think, then another thought crosses your mind.

I want to show up for myself and the world but I feel like I run out of time.

Hang in there my dear, be patient be kind, to yourself and the people you love

There is no need to rush, one day at a time, you don’t want to risk to get lost.

I know your ambitions. I feel your pain and the pressure you put on yourself.

Take a breath, close your eyes, and just listen inside, your story only you are able to tell.

Regina Larko (08:13)

This message is dedicated to you, the strong women in my life, as well as all the strong women in your life. Make sure you tell them how much they mean to you.

Happy International Women’s Day.

Thank you for listening. Talk to you soon. Bye.
