This blog-series is brought to you by Start your Podcast. Make an Impact – my Podcasting online course & mentorship programme that shows you how to get your Podcast off the ground and make an impact with your show from day 1. You can take a peek inside the programme here.

Today I want to encourage you to reach out to another Podcaster, one that you might consider a competitor.

Do you think that’s crazy?

Please hear me out.

When I first launched my show #impact Podcast in 2017, I came across the Social Entrepreneur Podcast. I really enjoyed listening to it but I felt intimidated by it at the same time.

This show had been running for several years already and I found it mentioned on a bunch of “MUST LISTEN” lists.

It addressed similar issues I envisioned to bring to #impact (social impact and sustainability) Listening to the intro made my jaw drop.

Wow, that host, what an amazing guy, I thought, so much experience!

I kept listening to the show as a source of inspiration but I never even considered that I could approach the host.

Earlier this spring I did a search for #impact Podcast on Google. I do that now and then because it helps me find mentions online.

And there it was.

Someone had put my Podcast on his list, all the way on the top, Podcasts to Change the World.

#impact on the list! 10 Podcasts to Change the World.

I tracked him down on Instagram and started listening to a Podcast HE hosted called Thrive, Connect, Contribute.

I loved it and shared about it on the #impact Instagram stories.

Minutes later I got a reply.

Tony allowed me to share his message to me here.

It was Tony! THE Tony, the host from the Social Entrepreneur Podcast!

The one I felt so intimidated by. And he was recommending #impact and had been a listener of my show for a while!

I could not believe it.

Since then Tony has shared about our upcoming #impact Season 5 highlighting the Sustainable Development Goals on his Social Media Channels. And our download numbers went up.

There were some media mentions and features the same month too and I have also been working hard with my team to be more active promoting our episodes on our social media channels, but I know that every share, especially outside of my existing network is incredibly powerful.

And a share from someone who is Podcasting in the same niche is PRICELESS.

So don’t make my mistake feeling intimidated by someone who you might think of as a competition because he/she addresses similar topics and target groups like you do with your show.

You will be surprised how rewarding it is to reach out to other Podcasters in your niche and how supportive they are.

Because every Podcaster KNOWS how much love and effort goes in each episode.

That’s why I feel that particularly in this industry people are in it for the right reasons and why there is no competition in podcasting, only collaboration.

So, who will you reach out to today?
